Adil O. Bahathiq had initial experience of the research tools with Professors Ian Cooke and William Ledger at University of Sheffield, U.K.He found newdata the Fallopian tube and epididymis for his Ph.D. Then he conducted a new line of research that helped and improved the healthof the community. He hasdeveloped this area after years of experience in research, evaluation, teaching and administration both in hospital and educational institutions. This research areawaschosen because of the lack of data relating to obesity and the metabolic syndrome in the children and adults of the Makkah community. The findings of this research have beenbeneficial to the authorities in the fields of education and health in Saudi Arabia.

Dr Tsiani’s research focus is to investigate the biological effects and the mechanism of action of plant-derived polyphenols. She has expertise in muscle metabolism, insulin resistance, cell signaling pathways and cancer biology. Both in vitro cell culture models as well as in vivo, animal models are used in her research studies. Normal cellular function is maintained by a complex system of signaling molecules (signaling cascades) that coordinate cell response to various stimuli. Defects in cellular signaling can lead to diseases such as diabetes (insulin resistance) and cancer. Understanding cell signaling is of major importance and provides the basis for defining novel tools for targeting signaling molecules and pathways involved in diseases. Dr. Marrero received a B.A. (1974), M.A. (1978) and Ph.D. (1982) in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine. He joined the IU School of Medicine in 1984 and became the J.O. Ritchey Professor of Medicine in 2004. He was a member of the Diabetes Research & Training Center and served as Director of the Diabetes Prevention and Control Division. He is currently the Director of the Diabetes Translational Research Center. Dr. Marrero is an expert in the field of clinical trails in diabetes and translation research which moves scientific advances obtained in clinical trails into the public health sector. He helped design the Diabetes Prevention Program and the TRIAD study, which evaluated strategies to improve diabetes care delivery in managed care settings. His research interests include strategies for promoting diabetes prevention, care settings, improving diabetes care practices used by primary care providers, and the use of technology to facilitate care and education. Dr. Marrero was twice awarded the Allene Von Son Award for Diabetes Patient Education Tools by the American Association of Diabetes Educators, nominated to Who�s Who in Medicine and Health care in 2000, served as Associate Editor for Diabetes Care (1997-2002) and is currently the Associate Editor for Diabetes Forecast. He was selected as Alumni of the Year for University of California Irvine in 2006 and The Outstanding Educator in Diabetes in 2008 by the American Diabetes Association.

Dr. Shaodong Guo is Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at Texas A&M University College. He received his Ph.D in Physiology from Peking University, China. Then he completed his postdoctoral research training in Genetics, Biochemistry, and Medicine in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Harvard University, respectively. Dr. Guo was an Instructor in Medicine at Children's Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School for two years prior to joining the faculty at Texas A&M Health Science Center. Currently, Dr. Guo serves as senior editor for the Journal of Endocrinology and Journal of Molecular Endocrinology, two major official journals of Endocrine Society of Europe, UK, and Australia, and he is the textbook chapter writer for Metabolic Syndrome edited by Rexford Ahima and published by Springer in 2016. Dr. Guo’s research has been funded by American Diabetes Association (ADA), American Heart Association, and the National Institute of Health. He is a recipient of ADA junior faculty award, career development award, and Richard R. Lee Award. His work has been published in a number of journals including the JBC, Endocrinology, Hypertension, Diabetes, Circulation Research, AJP, MCB, and Nature Medicine, receiving about 5,000 citations with an h-factor of 34 based on Google Scholar Citation.

Dr Ntethelelo Sibiya is a young researcher at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Recently he has been focusing on the evaluation of novel transdermal approaches to manage diabetes mellitus, primarily interested on the markers of cardiovascular, renal and cognitive function using animal experimental models. He has also been involved in the screening of medicinal-derived compounds for anti-hyperglycaemic and immunodulatory properties, using cell line models. Additionally, he is also involved in teaching and supervision of post-graduate students in the university.

Penny is a nutrition biochemist and dietitian scientist, holding a Master of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition, with a specialization in nutrition biochemistry and is a licensed and Registered Dietitian. Her research interests include pre- and type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity and what these conditions have in common so they can be treated synergistically and more efficiently at the individual and population level. Additionally, Penny is also interested in dietary components and interventions that work to prevent, improve, or worsen these conditions. Being that cultural and ethnic background play an influential role in disease prevention and management, she considers research in these contexts. Penny's specialty and passion lie in being the bridge between nutrition science and public health, receiving numerous community and industry awards and recognition for her initiatives and involvement in the communities she serves. Inspired by her diabetic past, having been diagnosed with prediabetes at the age of 12 years old and reversing it one year later, Penny is passionate about finding evidence-based and culturally-tailored dietary solutions in addressing the diabetes and chronic disease epidemic. Having varied clinical and community experience, she has been invited to speak in corporate and hospital sectors but also enjoys giving back through philanthropic community presentations to low-income and minority communities that are among those at highest risk and prevalence of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. With a growing international community of over 10,500 followers, Penny also enjoys mobilizing social media such as Twitter (@pbroo003) as a means to provide evidence-based information and research to layperson communities who are interested in preventing or better managing these conditions. Recently, she has served as a consultant to the Florida International University (FIU) Marketing Department (part of the FIU School of Business) to create and develop the first nutrition curriculum component for their Health & Fitness Marketing Certificate program. And currently, Penny is engaged in an invited appointment at FIU where she is an independent consulting researcher working in cross-cultural dietary assessment research.

Diana Alvarado has got her first Researcher Professor position in Universidad del Valle de México a year ago and became part of the Researchers National System. She has acquired experience on molecular biology and techniques to detect DNA damage, like Comet assay and Micronuclei assay, as well as the spectrophotometric techniques to detect oxidative stress. One of the reasons for which she chose as her research line obesity, is because Mexico is amongst the first world places of obesity and related diseases as obesity and metabolic syndrome. With this research line she has the purpose to show a practical, yet early way to diagnose, prevent and treat in a more specifical way, all of the comorbilities related to obesity, which have become at least in our country, the main causes for death. Passionated for her work, as a young researcher, she is looking for opportunities to establish collaboration networks with other researchers doing similar things which could be eventually translated into wellbeing for people with this disease.

Dr. Ghazeeri, an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is a practicing Obstetrician/Gynecologist at American University of Beirut Medical Center since 2004. She received her medical degree from the American University of Beirut and completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at AUB. She also completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology & Assisted Reproductive Technology at the University of Tennessee. In 2008 she received her Diploma in Clinical Embryology at University of Leeds. She is the director of residency program of Obstetrics and Gynecology at American University of Beirut Medical Center since 2008. Her research interests are in Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis, fertility preservation, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome treatments , and In-vitro fertilization . Since the year 2000, she has published more than 48 scientific papers in peer reviewed. She has presented in several scientific meetings. She is a member in multiple scientific and medical societies such as the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. She is also a Technical Consultant in the American Board of Bioanalysts.

Hidekatsu Yanai, MD, PhD, Fellow of American College of Physicians (FACP), is the Director of the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Research and Trial Center, National Center for Global Health and Medicine Kohnodai Hospital, Japan. He is also the Professor of Wayo Women’s University, Japan. He obtained his MD and PhD degrees in National Defense Medical College and Hokkaido University School of Medicine, respectively. He studied as Invited PhD Research Fellow in the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA. He is the Editor-in-Chief of “Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism” and also an Editorial Board Member of ten medical journals. He has 195 published English papers in refereed medical journals.
